Supporting Mental Health in Gallatin County

The Yellowstone Club Community Foundation is proud to announce two capital grant awards totaling $760,000 in support of projects that support community members grappling with mental and behavioral health challenges in Gallatin County.

Montana consistently ranks among the states with the highest suicide rates in the nation. As of 2024, the state’s suicide rate was approximately 29.8per 100,000 people, more than double the national average. The suicide rate among Montana's children was 13.2 per 100,000 population, nearly three times the national rate of 4.7. Gallatin County, like much of Montana, faces significant mental health challenges. Mental Health America’s county-level data shows that Gallatin County ranks among the highest in Montana for individuals screening positive for moderate to severe depression and suicidal ideation.

The need for accessible, effective behavioral health systems has never been greater. Our Foundation is proud to support this effort by awarding grants to local organizations that are on the front lines of mental health care—providing counseling, crisis intervention, peer supports, and prevention programming.

Lighthouse Ranch

Lighthouse Ranch will be a residential facility dedicated to providing innovative care for at-risk youth and their families following a mental health crisis.  This model of care allows kids to stay close to family and community, and engages them over time to support long-term healing.

Inpatient Unit at Deaconess Regional Medical Center

For adult community members experiencing acute mental health crisis, Bozeman Health is constructing a new  inpatient psychiatric unit at Deaconess Regional Medical Center, scheduled to open in 2025. This 14-bed facility will provide a safe, safe therapeutic environment, reducing the need for patients to be transferred out of the region for care.

In addition to our grantmaking, we are deeply engaged in systems-level change through our participation in the Gallatin Behavioral Health Coalition and the Big Sky Wellness Coalition. These coalitions bring together health providers, nonprofits, government agencies, and community leaders to strengthen the behavioral health system across the region.

The Yellowstone Club Community Foundation believes that collaboration, innovation, and sustained investment are key to addressing the complex mental health challenges facing our community. Through these grants and our coalition work, we are helping to build a healthier, more resilient Big Sky region.
